Letter from Burton Malone about free airline tickets

Here’s another Leading Incentive Agency!  (See other posts here.) Please comment if you received one.

It tells you that you have qualified for an award of 2 roundtrip airline tickets.   It looks like it was actually signed by Rachel Tate, the Vice President of the Travel Awards Division.

The www.burtonmalone.com website exists. Here’s the whois info: http://www.whois.net/whois/burtonmalone.com — registered September 27, 2010.

They hand write the address on the envelope and use a real stamp.

I have found the answers to this mystery thanks to the great work of the folks at BBB in Tucson, AZ:

I am the proud recipient of a replica of this letter with the name of Madden Hall. See my earlier blog post about that letter.

Got this letter yesterday. I Googled the company to try to track it down (it totally reeked) and found your site. Thanks for posting all the links and BBB info about this. I always try to file complaints against these people to try to stop the madness. Just hope that there aren’t naive people calling and providing all of their info!

  2. Stephen Roth says:

I received the EXACT same letter as posted above on this web page- HOW did they get my address?!?!?!?!? We are very careful to shred all of our mail that we are throwing away. This is disturbing.

  3. Jerry Victor says:

Just got the same letter myself, although I noticed the “Rachel Tate” signature is different.

Thanks for letting us know about this scam.

  4. Carolyn says:

My husband received this letter today. It looked like a …. right away to me, we haven’t entered anything to win. For fun I visited the website, then I had no doubt it was a scam. The website contains next to no info. On locations it gives cities and states, but no actually addresses. Under promotions it list several things you can’t even click on……sad part is some people will fall for it.

  5. RDUSZAJ says:

I received a ltter out of the blue with a different signature than the one above…is it possible they do human trafficing also?

  6. E. J. says:

Got the same letter Oct. 23, 2010. Knew it had to be B.S. from the jump. The signature is R. Tate but different from your example. Hope nobody gets caught up in this. I’m handing this over to the postal system. The stamp on mine wasn’t even cancelled, don’t know why. Maybe they can find them and hit them with some federal crime. Hope so, so nobody gets burned.
Thanks for putting this up here.

  7. William says:

Got my letter from Linda Moss at Sampson Phelps. Looks just like the Burton Malone letter (same web site too).

When will these people figure out that it doesn’t make sense to send this kind of stuff in the age of Google.

    Thanks for the post!

  8. PL says:

I smell a rat! My husband received this and right away I felt something was up. We didn’t enter any contests. I am going to call BBB and the USPS today. Sad to think about how many people will be scammed by these skunks.

  9. Alecia & Maurice says:

My step-dad received this letter, ours from Sampson Phelps signed by Linda Ross. Just like everyone else we went google surfing and ran right across this!

Thanks for all of the info!

  10. Cindy S says:

We just got this same crazy letter – and our stamp wasn’t cancelled either! Are they hand-delivering these to mailboxes, which is crazy??

  11. jj says:
